Empowering municipalities for effective energy transition.
Project summary
Municipalities play a key role in decarbonizing energy systems but often face barriers like limited skills and tools. The CommitClimate project empowers local authorities by enhancing their capacity to navigate energy transitions. Its core innovation, the CommitClimate Simulator, is a cutting-edge tool for carbon footprint calculation and future scenario modeling. Developed in collaboration with municipalities, it equips staff and stakeholders with the insights needed to drive climate action effectively.
How does it work?
Online platform.
CommitClimate
The CommitClimate Online Platform is more than just a support tool—it’s a comprehensive resource hub designed to guide municipalities through their energy transition.
Developed by CommitClimate project partners, the platform offers step-by-step explanations, in-depth training materials, and a wealth of resources to help local authorities and stakeholders navigate carbon reduction strategies and implement effective climate action plans.

The quotes.
The transnational cooperation is at the heart of our project’s success. It enables cross-border exchange of best practices, resources, and knowledge. Our ability to work together allows us to tackle issues from various perspectives and create more comprehensive solutions. The support from Interreg BSR ensures that we have the necessary funding and framework to facilitate this cooperation.
Working as a municipal energy consultant I know that people are often overwhelmed by information when considering making their building or business more energy efficient. This is one of the big barriers and our survey supports this theory: both LED light bulbs and energy-efficient appliances are easy to understand thanks to a clear energy rating system. They are also easily available. And not at least: people look at what others are doing and are doing and do the same. The CommitClimate project with its behavioral tool helps us to create an active dialogue with our citizens and to create a movement where we support each other in finding the right solutions for a better sustainable future in our communities.
CommitClimate is a practical tool that helps both municipalities and citizens track CO₂ emissions. It supports smarter energy planning and encourages more climate-conscious choices in everyday life.
Finally - a tool that speaks the language of municipalities! The CommitClimate simulator makes it so much easier to plan local climate and energy actions. It turns complex data into clear insights and shows what’s really achievable. A real game-changer for anyone working on local energy planning!
Commit Climate is an outstanding initiative that clearly shows how our everyday choices impact the climate. The simulator is impressive – intuitive, engaging, and thought-provoking. It’s a powerful educational tool that truly inspires real change.
To reach the municipality’s climate goals, public engagement is essential — but even more crucial is a shared understanding of our current environmental impact and the steps we can take to live more sustainably. CommitClimate offers an interactive platform that uses simulation to inform and empower both municipality and the community. It shows how everyday choices and collective action can reduce CO₂ emissions and improve energy efficiency.
With CommitClimate simulator municipalities and citizens can easily see how they can improve their environmental footprint and get ideas for more sustainable future planning.
It has been exciting to be involved in the development of the CommitClimate Simulator tool. I really see the potential in helping municipalities, like ours, to understand how much of the energy use comes from municipal buildings and where we can find opportunities for energy efficiency. This is also a good tool for municipal energy counselling to get a clearer picture of where it can make a difference.
We find the CommitClimate CO2 Simulator and the CO2 Footprint Calculator as very useful and helpful tools also for our educational activities: the Climate Days in schools and the Energy Detective activity. During Climate Days we educate not only children, but through them also their teachers and parents, so we can confidently state that our efforts cover a much wider area than municipal schools.
It was interesting to use the CommitClimate Simulator to reflect on the climate situation in our municipality. Small changes can really make a difference – and we are not too late. What we do today affects our future and that of future generations!
